Monitoring Terrestrial Water Storage Changes with the Tongji-Grace2018 Model in the Nine Major River Basins of the Chinese Mainland

Data from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellite mission can be used to monitor changes in terrestrial water storage (TWS). In this study, we exploit TWS observations a new temporal gravity field model, Tongji-Grace2018, which was developed using an optimized short-arc approach at Tongji University. We analyzed groundwater (GWS) each of nine major river basins Chinese mainland April 2002 August 2016, Global Land Assimilation System (GLDAS) hydrological situ observations, additional auxiliary data (such as precipitation temperature). Our results indicate that Songliao, Yangtze, Pearl, Southeastern River Basins are all increasing, with most drastic growth occurring Basin. The Yellow, Haihe, Huaihe, Southwestern decreasing, loss Haihe Continental Basin has remained largely unchanged over time. With exception Songliao Pearl Basins, GWS produced by Tongji-Grace2018 model consistent these basins. correlation coefficients for Southwestern, higher than 0.710. Overall, exhibit downward trend, severe Huaihe Basins. However, Yangtze both have upward-trending modeled measured values. This study demonstrates effectiveness reliable estimation on mainland, may contribute management available resources.
